Diet and intestinal transit time regulates gut microbial metabolism
Seminar by Associate Professor Martin Frederik Laursen, from DTU
Dietary fibers and gut transit time regulate how gut bacteria process amino acids, shifting metabolism toward more beneficial compounds and away from potentially harmful ones. These factors, together with gut pH, strongly influence both microbiome composition and its metabolic impact, highlighting the importance of understanding regulatory mechanisms rather than just correlations for designing microbiome-targeted health interventions.
